High Sheriff's Award - Take Two

The Up and Under Group won an unprecedented second High Sheriff's Award last week. After scooping the award for Innovation at the High Sheriff's Awards for Enterprise last year, Up and Under once again took to the winners stage to receive the, Bank of America sponsored, award for Corporate Social Responsibility.

The prize recognises the Cheshire based asset management and refurbishment company's contribution to young people in their community. Recently the Company paid for a trip by the Cheshire Buddies to an outdoor centre in the Lake District which specialises in providing adventurous activities for people with disabilities. After visiting the youngster MD Andy Fewtrell said "having been thrashed at pool several times it was hard to tell who had the disability! This experience has really opened my eyes to the way that 'disabled' people are perceived in our society"

The Company, who provide a diverse range of services from their Crewe office including: bridge inspection, high rise building maintenance, safety consultancy & training, confined space surveys, pigeon control works and office refurbishment, are managing to increase their community involvement despite difficult economic conditions. It seems that our clients value the fact that some of the money we earn from them goes into good causes, or what we call "Good Stuff".

Already this year The Up and Under Foundation - Up and Under's own charity - has helped less well off youngsters with the cost of Scout camps and will be taking a group of young carers away for an exciting weekend at the Conway Centre, Anglesey, in May. For more details of grants that are available see www.upandunderfoundation.org. Last year the Company worked hard to enable 8000 people to hold MD Andy's Olympic Torch. It suffered a few knocks, but it brought smiles to a lot of faces. With a company mission statement of 'Make Money, Do Good Stuff With It' customers can see the benefit of working with the Up and Under Group.

On Sunday 9th June Up and Under are running a corporate cycle challenge, to raise money for the Foundation, with distances of 50 and 100km based around the beautiful Cheshire countryside. For information and to enter go to www.foundationrides.co.uk. There are prizes for the company/club and individual raising the most through sponsorship. If you are looking for a good reason to get your bike out of the garage this could be it.

This is the 7th year of the Cheshire High Sheriff's Awards for Enterprise. They recognise successful businesses across Cheshire and highlight outstanding achievement by local companies. Founded by former High Sheriff off Cheshire David Briggs MBE in 2006, the Awards for Enterprise are judged on enterprise, corporate social responsibility an innovation.
